I could have shared this testimony earlier, but I’ve waited to see how long-lasting the healing would be.
I don’t know what caused it, but a few months ago I noticed a large knot on my Achilles tendon, and I was finding it hard to walk without a limp. I looked online and saw an illustration of what the back of my ankle looked like. A week or so later when I needed to see my doctor for a checkup, he confirmed that it was tendonitis.
He showed me a few stretching exercises then advised me. Try to stay off it, treat it with heat and with ice, etc.
Meanwhile, we were moving and I had to hobble around on it often from day to day. And I didn’t feel I could take time to sit around with heat and ice.
But I thought about the miracle healing ministry of Jesus. Often He called for people to do what they couldn’t do. “Take up your bed and walk,” He told the paralytic. There are many other similar stories in the four gospels, and I’ve seen many people healed as they did what they couldn’t do.
It isn’t that they earn their healing by taking a great step of faith. It’s that they receive their healing, and receiving empowers them to do what they couldn’t do before. That’s why they can suddenly move without back pain, bend the knee that wouldn’t bend before, or suddenly walk without a limp and without pain.
So after we moved, I sometimes needed to go three quarters of a mile from our house to our community mailbox. Often I walked, praying with every step. As far as the ankle was concerned, I didn’t overdo it. I walked gently, thanking God that I was receiving healing as I walked.
I didn’t receive instantly. But within a couple of weeks, I realized I wasn’t limping anymore. I didn’t testify right away because I could still see the knot on the back of my ankle.
Within another week or two, the knot was gone. Now my ankle looks and feels perfectly normal.
But I do wish I had shared this little testimony earlier. Perhaps it would have encouraged someone else to look to God for healing. It doesn’t take great prayers or great faith. It’s the great love of a great God that makes it happen. He cares!
At first, I saw no need to share this testimony at the Gathering on Sunday. Several of us have major needs for healing and my testimony seems small. But the words of Jesus remain: “To him who has will more be given. It’s important to celebrate whenever God does anything for us, no matter how large or small Even a small healing is evidence that the Healer is with us. This in turn will encourage those of us who are facing major medical problems.
