Get Into Flow

Recently I was feeling dry.  But in John 7:37, Jesus invites us all:  “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.”

Over the years, I’ve found several ways to come to Jesus. And as I’ve done so,  He has given me a flow of living waters again and again.  did, I’ve learned three ways to position myself before Him to catch the flow when He starts speaking.  All three are in my 31-Day Devotional, “Learn To Hear From God.  See http://www.squidoo.com/learn-to-hear-from-god-day-3; it tells about three ways we can position ourselves to hear God when He speaks:  quiet our hearts, focus on Jesus, and look for a flow of words.

But I also wondered what would be the best way to come to Jesus.  In prayer?  In worship?  With a soaking time?.  They’ve all worked for me in the past, but which should I use now?  Prayer, or worship with  a new song, both set us up to open our mouths and let God fill them.  http://www.squidoo.com/open-your-mouth-to-flow

1.  Prayer:

Often I start with a chapter of the Bible, and look for the vision of Jesus it presents.  Then I read the chapter to God, using it as an outline,  and expect Him to pray His thoughts through me.  I’ve gotten a lot of good revelation this way.

2.  Worship

Sing a new song to the Lord.  Sing to God about the most recent thing you’ve heard from Him, or the most recent thing you’ve seen God do.

3. Soaking.

One way to reach for the flow of the Holy Spirit is to spend time with God, soaking in His presence, with a quiet heart and a mind focused on Jesus.

I chose this option the other night, and sat with a pen ready and a steno pad in my lap.  I was tired, and this method seemed the easiest.  I sat back in an easy chair and played worship music on my Pod.  Soon, I had filled a page in my steno book with writing.

When the flow begins, you’ll learn a lot.  You will sometimes learn from the words that come out of your own mouth, because it isn’t you that speaks, but the Holy Spirit that speaks through you.

I’ll write more in another article, “Learned While Soaking”, and share the highlights of that page.  To my surprise, God began to enlarge my understanding of flow.  It doesn’t have to happen only with words.  It can be any action of the Holy Spirit.  It can be a flow of healing, or of being Spirit-led in daily life.

He also promised to teach me more about these other aspects of flow.  I’ll write about them as I continue to study them in scripture, and as testimonies accumulate.

The Christian life doesn;’t have to be dry.  Come to Jesus for living water.  “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive.  (John 7:37-38
